Thanks so much for the insight! I'm hoping once I have more time I can start getting out there and finding some local bands, some people in the industry have told me it's a bad idea to work in venues though? I'm generally a mum to most people i know, so i guess i have some experience in that :) How does your daughter fit in with the day to day stuff on tour? x
No problem. :) Anytime. I always say any experience is good experience. Working at a venue may not be a direct line to what you want to do, but if it is a venue that all the local bands play at, then it could be a different story. It could give you some insight to which band you might be comfortable helping. Getting to know them by seeing them on the same level. (Not as a fan, but an employee of venue) Anyway, you can see how the treat eachother, their fans and just an overall amout of their professionalism. Then you can plan your “Merch girl” move and offer the TM, assistance as needed. If the band is good, they will end up touring. (And you will have already checked them out) As for schooling, she only takes the amount of online, credits she can handle. SO if you do end up planning a tour experience, just make sure you adjust that term and maybe (If you need to) only do part time that term. (6 credits) Online schooling is great, because you have teachers to talk to during the day and you can email them 24/7. We have WIFI on our phone. That allows her to do her work day or night.
This year she gave me 3 tickets to give to friends. I've already started counting down the days until we leave for the city! How many years have you be attending Warped for?
GREAT!! I know, we are already planning for tour ourselves. lol I think I figured out that gas will be $7800 for our modest tour bus. This might be my favorite Warped Tour route yet. I think this will be my 4th Tour. :)
Hi! I really enjoy your pictures. I went to warped last year and spent most of the time protecting my mom from crowd surfers, I didn't have much time for picture taking! :)
Thank you. :) That’s great that your Mom made the bold move to join you at warped. Next time, show her the Reverse Daycare (Air conditioned Parent’s lounge) and tell her you guys can meet up every couple of hours. Or just suggest to her that she may want to sit this particular band out. Then meet up right after, showing her that you can take care of yourself and not have to worry about your Mom, when you hit up Bands with insane fans. lol Always take a buddy, though. Hopefully you can take pics too. :)
Hello, just thought i'd introduce myself because i'm a new follower etc :) I'm Becca, I followed you mainly because your url intrigued me. I aspire and am currently training to be a tour manager or assistant of some form, but always told i'll never make it touring because the industry favours strong men who can lift stuff. i'm a fan of AAR, ATL, blink, enter shikari, mayday parade, paramore, you me at six and adore Young Guns. But other bands you post i'm likely to check out their music too :) x
Hi Becca, Don’t buy into that “Tour Mangaer” stuff. I know several young women that are great TM’s. Women can lift! I always say, “College is important!” but what I do with my Daughter is that I have her go to school part time. Taking Communications, Business, Web Page Building etc as online college classes. Just the stuff she can’t learn by DOING on a tour. You should find local bands, check their behavior, and offer to merch for them. It’s a great way to test the waters and observe. Most people find out, for themselves, if this is what they really want to do. It’s long hours, bitchy people, mostly thankless, no regular showering, not always having a bunk, living with men for a couple of months and you are up first and in bed last…etc. lol Not for everyone. TM is like a Nanny of misbehaving kids…with Alchol…and hormones… If you find the right fit, it is the best feeling in the world. The great feeling of success and being a part of it, can make you forget the crappy parts. lol
And for your Band choices…AWESOME taste. :) I did post some Hayley Williams and I will work on Mayday next. (They are like my Sons. Don’t tell, but Cabbage is my Fav)
I have a ton of pics from the last 3 Warped Tours and even several other tours. If you have some Favorite Bands you would like me to post, let me know. I am slowly updating and would love to go in an order that you all would enjoy. :)
The more you reblog me and chat with me, will potentially lead you to getting Video Shout Outs by your favorite band, maybe some Merch, and on some occasions, I have been known to get certain Bands to even make phone calls. (To/For you!) I see and know so many Bands. ;)
I really LOVE these boys. I tried to give them the “Mom Look” and they cracked up. I smile every single time I see them. :) Really good guys, always trying to meet their fans and living their dreams.
Random Warped Tour 2012 story… My Profile pic is me dancing on Stage with All Time Low. lol I asked Jack, “Did you feel the stage bounce?” and he looked at me like a pug hearing “Treat!” I laughed and said, “I was dancing!” lol he just hugged me and said, “I love you!”
Make sure you check out the other 2 sets of ATL pics.
My Favorite Boys, Family Force Five! This is from Warped Tour 2011 and I have to say, I spent most of my time dancing on stage with FF5. They are a great group of guys with the most wonderful family. Always a Dance Party when they are around. BTW, always try to get a hug when you get to meet them. Best huggers out there. ;)
